Starting with connector v6.7, the MySQL team added a new requirement that projects include in their web.config file underneath the configuration section a new block. This block is as follows:

<configuration>
    <system.data>
        <DbProviderFactories>
            <clear/>
            <remove invariant="MySql.Data.MySqlClient"/>
            <add name="MySql.Data.MySqlClient" invariant="MySql.Data.MySqlClient" description=".Net Framework Data Provider for MySQL" type="MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlClientFactory, MySql.Data,Version=6.7.0.0, Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d"/>
        </DbProviderFactories>
    </system.data>
</configuration>
